What it’s like being the CEO of a growing Startup
Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to be the CEO of your own company? Or perhaps you are a CEO and feel like that you can do more, be more.
Let me tell you this, this is one of the most terrifying things I’ve ever done in my life and at the same time the most exhilarating. Why terrifying? Because the livelihood of so many staff lies in my hands; their well-being, their future, their success. In the same breath the well-being of the business lies in my hands too – strategising for the future and bringing our vision to life.
Being a successful CEO means being able to do things like sleep in your car in the beginning and being absolutely cool with it. When starting out cash flow is slim so you learn to hustle in ways you never thought possible. You learn to live on potatoes, sacrifice most things for the success of your business and still do all of this with a huge smile on your face.
What inspires me to face the challenges of each day and keep myself motivated?
I can honestly say I love people, interacting, connecting, and networking. People skills form the foundation of my being and my role in the business. I am inspired by others and by their motivation to succeed.
2. Solution based thinking
Embrace the notion that each challenge you face means there is a solution. We don’t see problems, we only see answers. We are cultivating a culture of solution based thinking with our staff, teaching each team member to think on their feet. When they come to us with a problem we expect them to present that with at least one solution as well.
3. Accelerated growth through success
The accelerated growth that I’ve witnessed in my business inspires me. Each day we learn something new and we take that and implement it in the business. We continuously ask ourselves “Will this make the boat go faster?” and if the answer is yes, then we take action and make it a part of our daily processes.
One day you wake up, and you realise that this “baby” that you’ve been nurturing and feeding has grown from a 3 member team to over 15 amazing people. You smile, you take a deep breath and embrace the day, knowing that you played a pivotal part in the success of this startup.
