We Made Dreams a Reality for 3 Start-ups

We recently embarked on a value drive to help three entrepreneurs build successful businesses. In partnership with Lionesses of Africa, women entrepreneurs who attended the Lean In breakfast in August were given the opportunity to enter our competition to win a package of a lifetime – business support and coaching valued at R100,000.

We asked women business owners at each event to tweet why they should be the winner of this amazing prize and the impact it will have on their business. We were incredibly impressed by all the tweets we received.

Congratulations to Tebogo Petlele (Founder of Seponono), Tinyiko Mareane and Boitumelo Mogoai (Founders of Nik Muffins) and Katherine du Plooy (Founder of Du Plooy Studios). These three businesses showed us how passionate they are about entrepreneurship!

Nik Muffins

The ladies at Nik Muffins were the winners of the Johannesburg leg. Their social enterprise was founded on a vision to empower the youth of South Africa. They bake muffins and other cakes, sell them and use the proceeds to support students in underprivileged homes.

They are thrilled on winning the competition and believe that this prize will help to increase their brand exposure. As they so excitedly put it, “Winning this package will totally help us fully Own Our Future!”

Seponono

In Durban, Seponono stole the show. They created a platform for women of all races to stand up together and celebrate life through the culture of bold, unique and creative headscarves.

It all began with a quest to find her purpose and a desire to serve others. Tebogo Petlele (founder), found that women could demonstrate their individuality through these wonderful headscarves. She saw the headscarf as a means to unite as women.

Their official hashtag, #IamSeponono allows women from all over the world to demonstrate how they wear their headscarves on the 18th of every month.

Du Plooy Studios

In the mother city, we had the pleasure of meeting Katherine from Du Plooy Studios. This is a woman with a vision and a passion for interior design!

The company specialises in three main areas, – Interior Design, Project Management and Relocation coordination.

They champion the cause of the ‘small’ previously disadvantaged tradesmen (and women) and encourage, nurture and support them in the process of establishing their own operations and achieving compliance with the required documentation and good business practices.

We are extremely excited to kick-start the growth process for these three start-ups and we express our thanks to all those wonderful women who attended the event. If you would like a chance to receive the same opportunity, make sure to contact us HERE.
